The 13-episode “Ultraman” 3-D CG anime series will be streamed worldwide on Netflix on April 1.

The project, produced by Production I.G Inc. and Sola Digital Arts Inc., is co-directed by “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” director Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, who is known for the “Appleseed” series.

“Ultraman” is based on a manga of the same name written by Eiichi Shimizu and illustrated by Tomohiro Shimoguchi that has been running in Monthly Comic Magazine Hero’s.

The original manga is also inspired by a classic live-action superhero TV series featuring Ultraman, who protects humans from aliens and monsters.

The story centers around a senior high school boy named Shinjiro Hayata, whose father, Shin, was the first Ultraman. One day, he learns that his father used to transform into the colossal superhero and that evil aliens are operating on Earth.

Furthermore, it turns out that Shinjiro is one of few individuals fit to wear the Ultraman suit developed by Ide, a member of the SSSP (Science Special Search Party), which has become a secret organization to fight new threats.

Shinjiro will be voiced by Ryohei Kimura, while Dan Moroboshi (Seven) and Seiji Hokuto (Ace) will be played by Takuya Eguchi and Megumi Han, respectively. Shin will be portrayed by Hideyuki Tanaka.
