Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama Has Been Knighted by France

Akira Toriyama, The legendary creator of Dragon Ball, has officially been knighted by France! Toriyama's published has accepted the medal on May 30.

Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama who is one of legendry manga authors in the world has officially been knighted by France government! The French government awarded one of the most manga authors with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) decoration at an amazing ceremony that was held on May 30 at the French Embassy in Japan.

Toriyama did not participate in the ceremony so his publisher Akio Iyoku was present to accept the medal in his place. After explaining and apologizing for Toriyama's absence, Iyoku conveyed a message from the creator to France and his fans. How "honored he is to receive this award from your country." was emphasized in the message.

Beyond Akira Toriyama, there are other knighted creators from the anime and manga world. Some of them are Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) in 2005, Jiro Taniguchi (The Summit of the Gods) in 2011, Leiji Matsumoto (Galaxy Express 999) in 2013, and Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) in 2015.
